YOGA IN THE ADIRONDACKS
Yoga is an ancient, yet very relevant science of self-mastery. It combines physical postures, breathing and meditation practices that helps to align oneself with spirit and maintain health and wellbeing. The practice of yoga naturally leads one to a more balanced life. It helps the practitioner deal with the stresses and challenges of life. Physically, yoga increases flexibility, strength and stamina. It eases the aging process by enhancing agility and balance.
Amy is a Professional Level yoga instructor, having completed her 500 hour yoga teacher training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in November of 2012. Amy was first certified to teach in 2008 and she has been a practitioner since 1989.
"The positive influence that yoga has had on my life inspires my passion to share it with others." - Amy Kohanski
What is Kripalu yoga? Kripalu yoga emphasizes self-awareness through a compassionate inquiry. Kripalu yoga is the path of love, of service and compassion. It is a sacred journey to the heart. Kripalu yoga is a comprehensive, disciplined approach to self-study that cultivates
health, facilitates psychological growth, and transforms one’s sense of self.
Kripalu Yoga arises from thousands of years of study and practice in fostering spiritual connection to all life and awakening to the authentic self. It focuses on getting in touch with one’s own innate wisdom and happiness through cultivating nonjudgmental awareness. Teacher’s guide students through practice (which could be gentle, moderate or vigorous), pranayama, and mediation but neither postures or sequence are standardized. What distinguishes a Kripalu yoga class is an emphasis on bringing awareness to the physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts that arise throughout the practice. The way we act and react on the
mat becomes a microcosm for the way we act and react in daily life, leading to greater authenticity, equanimity and happiness.
